As preparations intensify for Eid-el-Kabir, SKT Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd has issued a strong advisory to Nigerian households, urging vigilance in the handling and preparation of sacrificial animals to safeguard public health and prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases.

In a statement released ahead of the Sallah festivities, SKT Healthcare emphasized the critical importance of meat safety, hygiene, and disease prevention, especially as millions of livestock are expected to be slaughtered across the country during the holiday.

Speaking on behalf of the company, a spokesperson for SKT Healthcare stated:

“We are reminding the public that some diseases present in livestock can be transmitted to humans, particularly when the animals are not properly inspected or the meat is inadequately handled. It’s essential that only healthy, certified animals are purchased and processed.”

The company noted that improper slaughtering and poor meat preparation are significant risk factors for zoonotic outbreaks and foodborne illnesses during religious celebrations. To mitigate these risks, SKT Healthcare strongly advised that meat be cooked thoroughly to eliminate pathogens, and that particular care be taken in how meat is stored and prepared.

“We are especially appealing to mothers and food handlers during Eid to take responsibility in ensuring meat is not only well-cooked but also hygienically prepared. Washing meat with clean water before cooking and maintaining general kitchen hygiene are simple yet powerful steps in protecting families,” the company added.

The statement by SKT Healthcare comes as Kano State’s Ministry of Health also urged citizens to observe health precautions during Eid-el-Kabir. Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, reiterated that zoonotic diseases such as brucellosis and anthrax can pose serious threats if precautions are not taken.

He further reassured residents that the Kano State Government has stocked its health facilities with essential drugs and emergency medical supplies in anticipation of any potential public health emergencies during the festive period.

SKT Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd commended the government’s proactive measures and emphasized that collaboration between the health sector, veterinary experts, and the pharmaceutical industry is key to ensuring a safe and healthy celebration.

SKT Healthcare Pharmaceuticals Ltd extended warm Sallah greetings to the people of Kano State and wished them a peaceful, joyful, and healthy Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
